CWCE homecoming game

CWCE's Jackson Waldo make a cut past Shaye Morten of Hartington-Newcastle on his way to a first down in the second quarter Friday in Ewing.

The Renegades had all of the momentum as second half began Friday night, but Mother Nature shut it down, leading to a 90-minute lightning delay before the game was finally postponed.

Playing in Ewing on homecoming, CWCE held a 14-8 advantage over Hartington-Newcastle when the lightning delay was called at 8:24 p.m. With 10:33 left in the third quarter, a 30-minute delay was expected.

The weather didn't cooperate, and the game continued to be delayed. At 8:48, a lightning bolt struck a pole near the field, sending sparks overhead and people running from the area. Shortly after 10 p.m., the game was officially postponed until Sept. 20, at 2:30 p.m. in Ewing.
