Dylan Kaup, son of Chad and Beth Kaup, of Neligh, and a junior at Wayne State College, participated in the hammer throw event at the 2019 NCAA Division II Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships. He was ranked 16th in the nation with a seeded throw of 199’ 5.7”.
A total of 754 participants, 377 men and 377 women, competed in the championships. Student-athletes qualified for the championships by reaching the automatic and provisional standards established for each event. Kaup placed third in the hammer throw with a distance of 185’ 2 inches, at the Northern Sun Conference Outdoor Championships, held in Duluth, Minn. on May 10-11. He placed eighth in the discus at the same event, with a toss of 155’ 6”.
The national championships were held May 23-25 in Kingsville, Texas at Javelina Stadium. Texas A&M University-Kingsville served as host.
Kaup finished in 14th place with a throw of 190 feet 4.25 inches. WSC teammate Cade Kalkowski ended 21st with a throw of 181’ 4.4 inches.
