A benefit is planned for the Eric and Jennifer Iler family at the KC Hall in Elgin on Sunday, Sept. 29.
Sponsored by the Calvary Bible Church and friends, the spaghetti feed benefit will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. A silent auction is also planned. Those wishing to donate auction items are asked to contact Karen Kinney 402-843-5535 or Pastor Peter Sample at Calvary Church.
An account has also been set up at The Bank of Elgin for the Iler family.
Proceeds from the benefit will help defray medical expenses for the family. Eric was in a car crash August 8 and suffered a fractured cheek bone, ribs, extensive deep bruising and several fractured vertebrae in his neck. He had surgery on his neck to put in a metal plate and stabilize the vertebrae. Eric has a long road ahead for recovery, and a lot of hospital bills.
He has been working the farm by himself ever since his father-in-law had problems with a heart condition. Eric's father in-law-ended up having a heart attack and is in the hospital needing open heart surgery.
Their son has a rare genetic condition called beckwith wiedemann syndrome, and recently had abdominal surgery. He also has to be screened every three months until he is 8 for cancer, as his condition comes with increased risk.
Those who would like to volunteer, donate, find auction items or help with a meal train may contact anyone with the Calvary Church.
