A Clearwater woman said she is thankful after only suffering minor injuries Monday afternoon when a buck struck the windshield of the pickup she was riding in, sending her to the emergency room.
Maria Martinez said she was a passenger in a pickup driven by Travis Swanson that was eastbound from Clearwater on Highway 275 when a deer darted from private ground just past the Elkhorn River and onto the highway.
She said the pickup, which also had a three-year-old passenger in a carseat in the back, was struck by the deer "on a dead run" and "jumped directly into the windshield."
Martinez said she was the only one injured and sought brief medical attention at the emergency room due to the glass in her face. All of the occupants, she said, were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident, which was between 3 and 4 p.m. Monday.
"We sure have our angels working hard to keep us safe," she said.
